Who are the Gumptioneers?

The Gumptioneers are a group of summer interns who are effectively a small, independent advertising agency with no agenda other than ensuring that Montgomery thrives. We’re connected to an extensive network of influential business, community, and creative leaders, and providing our services to them--getting ideas off the ground that simply couldn't happen otherwise.

We bypass the labyrinth of bureaucracy that often comes from big organizations and larger staffs; instead, we have the luxury of being more agile than a typical advertising agency, and can leverage it to our advantage by coordinating more easily and making decisions faster. Our plans can evolve more fluidly, and the pivots of planning merely bring us closer to our goal, rather than grind the work to a halt. Our group is uniquely positioned to mobilize quickly and respond just as swiftly.

We don't charge any of our "clients," we instead maintain a curated list of efforts that we'll focus on, complete, and then refresh with new causes all throughout the summer. And without a purely commercial incentive, we can work singularly on our only objective: which is to be a serious force for positive growth in Montgomery. This is made easier by being housed in the very heart of downtown—the Ampersand building being mere minutes away from some of the most influential businesses and organizations in the city.

Alysheia Gray ,  Graphic designer Career: Junior Graphic Designer, Matter Creative Studios + Communications Chair, AAF Montgomery Interesting Fact: My birthday is September 3, 1993 so it reads 9.3.93.    How did Gumptioneers changed my view of Mgm?   I am from Pensacola, Florida so as you can imagine, Montgomery wasn't my first choice. I always thought that I would graduate and immediately move away. I am still here, two months later, and I plan on staying in town for a while longer. This is totally because the Gumptioneers changed my entire perspective of Montgomery. I met so many extraordinary people this summer and I love how big everyones' hearts are. Bottom line: There are so many people who want to see this city grow and thrive and I am now one of them thanks to the Gumptioneers! :)

Michael Tyner ,  Public Relations Career: PR Student, UA Grad Date: Spring 2017 Interesting Fact: Even though my favorite food is pizza, my favorite restaurant in Montgomery is Ixtapa.    How did Gumptioneers changed my view of Mgm?   While I have always loved Montgomery, I never knew that there were so many people who love it just as much if not more than I do. There are countless individuals who have given up so much of their time and energy unconditionally in order to see Montgomery flourish. I can say without a doubt in my mind that being a Gumptioneer has opened my eyes and helped me see just how wonderful of a city we all live in. It has changed my life forever, and I will never forget the relationships that I have created, the moments that I have shared and the people that I have helped while being a Montgomery Gumptioneer.
